In November of 2006, the Board of Trustees voted unamiously to create the Ursula Gentile Lowerre Outstanding Service Award. This award is named in honor of Ursula Gentile Lowerre '76, Upon graduation, Ursula may have left the Franklin College Campus but Franklin College and Lugano never left her heart. Over the past thirty years she has worked tirelessly and discretely to help the college during every step of its growth – much like a parent is there to tend to the needs of a growing child – or perhaps “teenager” would be a more appropriate analogy. Ursula is a constant contributor of books to the library. She has been responsible for creating and sponsoring the recognition gift for our graduation speakers. It was Ursula who was instrumental in starting the endowment for the college and she was one of the first to start the operating fund for the Alumni Council. She has shared her resources and hard work by serving as Chairwoman of the Gala and has co-hosted numerous events each year during the annual Board meetings. As the wife of the Chairman of the Board, she serves in a role that could be considered the first lady of the college. Additionally Ursula has contributed financial resources that have resulted in growth for the college and for enhanced learning experiences for the students. The Ursula Gentile Lowerre Outstaning Service Award has been established to recognize an alumnus/alumna who has been a significant part of advancing the mission of the College. The College wishes to recognize those individuals who at whatever stage in their life, have kept Franklin at the forefront of their thoughts and who have tirelessly worked on the College's behalf to help improve the learning environment at Franklin. In coordination with this award, an endowment was established to receive funds for support of this award. Once the endowment reaches the minimum level of $25,000 - a portion of the earnings each year will be used to help pay for the recipients travel expenses to Lugano during graduation weekend, during which the award will be presented.
