  • The British Broadcasting Service has an interesting site about music and composers, many of whom are on the list below. BBC--Music/Profiles
  • A publisher, W.W. Norton, has assembled sites about composers and their music for their textbooks. Try one or both of these. The Enjoyment of Music [click on Listening or 20th Century] or Essentials of Music [click on Composers]
  • A recording company, EMI, has excerpts of various composers/music onsite. The offerings change daily; look in the upper left-hand side for the LISTEN links. However, on any given day, the offerings available to listen to may or may not be part of a given week's assignment for class.
  • Internet Live Music Archive, an online public library of live recordings available for royalty-free, no-cost public downloads.
  • Hyperion Records has a large collection of excerpts, which may or may not be addressed in class.

Music Resources in print

To locate books on Music, you will want to use the Franklin College catalog.
To find books on Music, look under the Subject of MUSIC.
To find books on a certain period or region or type, look under, for example: Music -- 20th CENTURY or MUSIC -- PERFORMANCE, etc.

Books from the lower level of the library ["the stacks"] can be checked out for two weeks, and renewed if you still need the book. Books from the reading level of the library are for general reference, and cannot be checked out at all. There is a 20-volume Dictionary of Music on the top shelf of the South side of the Reading room. The call number is REF 780.3 G91n
