Course Registration

Registration is the process by which students enroll in courses for the upcoming semester.

New Students

New students register for courses and Academic Travel during New Student Orientation. See the Orientation Schedule for when and how. Upon arrival, new students receive an orientation packet, which includes information on course selection and logon name/password for My Franklin.

Study Abroad Students

Freshman Study Abroad students register with new students during New Student Registration (see above). Other Study Abroad students register for their courses through the Admissions Office in consultation with the Study Abroad or other academic advisor from their home institution.

Continuing Students

For continuing students, advising and registration begin immediately following Academic Travel, usually in the 8th week of the preceding term. Franklin College prides itself on its small class sizes, so desirable courses may fill up and close. It is very important for students to take advantage of the priority registration schedule.

Students will receive their preregistration material upon return from Academic Travel. They will also be informed of their priority registration day at this time.

Students should read over the registration material and use the Pre-Registration Worksheet to prepare a list of possible courses for the next text term. They should see their academic advisor during office hours or make an appointment to discuss the list of courses.

Instructions for Students:

On your priority registration day, go online to My Franklin. Press the Login key and follow the instructions. (If you have lost your log-on information and password or have been locked out of your account, contact the IT Office immediately.) Enter your course selections and Academic Travel requests directly online. Make sure you follow these steps:

  1. Click on Course Registration and choose the semester for which you want to register.
  2. Add the courses you are interested in to your registration shopping cart.
  3. Once you have added the courses and your Academic Travel, return to Course Registration and select the checkbox of each course for which you want to register (located in the Add column) and select Process. The course will not be added to your schedule unless you perform this step.

Please note that you will be temporarily holding your place in these courses and travels, but you will not be registered for the courses until later when your advisor approves them electronically. If you require additional information, please see FAQs about My Franklin registration.

See your academic advisor as soon as possible after your My Franklin session to finalize your registration. You and your advisor may have agreed to do this entirely online without another meeting. However, if you have not discussed this with your academic advisor at all before your My Franklin session, your advisor will not approve your schedule until you meet with him or her during office hours.

Students re-entering from leave of absence or other

Students re-entering from an approved leave of absence must notify the Registrar's Office of their intention to return to the College by October 15 for the following spring semester or by March 15 for the following fall semester. Once the College has been notified, students will receive instructions on how to preregister for their courses.

Students other than those with an approved leave of absence who have to be readmitted to Franklin register for their courses during new student registration. These students will also receive individual instructions on how to preregister.
