Summer Programs 2012

Journey to the heart of Europe for the most rewarding summer of your life.
Franklin summer programs include introductory through advanced courses in Political Science and Economics; Art and Art History; Literature; Communications; History; and Business, Marketing and Information Systems, as well as dynamic language immersion programs— where you can study and socialize 24/7 in another language…and live in the Italian-speaking city of Lugano.
Franklin College is setting a new standard for global education. The College is honored to welcome guest professors to campus this summer with our Franklin Fellows Program, Exploring World Citizenship. Students will examine some of the more interesting and pressing topics confronting the 21st century—the power and influence of imagery and photography on society; the interrelationship and conflicts between religion, culture and law; conservation issues and their effect on today's world; literary and cinematic influences on our sense of belonging and the places we call home; American identity and the relationship it has to race, class gender and sexuality; and the city and our urban condition traced through history from the perspective of citizenship, sustainability and cosmopolitanism.
In addition to this extensive array of cultural topics, Franklin is offering an extraordinary mix of courses for artists and art students in studio painting, printmaking and photography. The unique cultural mix found in Ticino has captivated artists and writers for centuries, and it is the perfect place to explore the light of the countryside through a digital camera, visit local and regional world-class museums, or begin a collection of travel essays chronicling your European adventures. With Florence, Venice and Milan just short train rides away, Franklin College is the perfect location to both develop your portfolio and expand your cultural frame of reference.
Between the first of June and the end of July, you may choose summer courses from two 4-week sessions. Earn up to 12 college credits (with the approval of your home university adviser and dean)—and also cover a lot of European ground through weekend travel in Switzerland and neighboring countries, through meeting students from all over the world, and through living in one of the most cosmopolitan villages in Europe—in Lugano, a hub of international urban culture, business, languages and travel. With the approval of your home university adviser and dean, you will be able to transfer your summer credits to any college in the U.S. or Europe at the end of your summer at Franklin.
