The Writing and Learning Center

The mission of the Writing and Learning Center is to provide students with personalized, academic support and leadership opportunities regarding all forms of writing, communication and learning. We also assist students in writing towards career and graduate school goals. One-on-one sessions with tutors promote self-reliance, critical thinking skills, good writing and research skills, and academic integrity.

Specific areas of concentration include:

Academic Support

Brainstorm with a tutor
Develop your thesis statement
Edit / revise / proofread papers
Acquire and refine research methods
Create a schedule for exam study or a paper's completion
Learn note taking techniques
Build vocabulary within your major field of interest
Learn about writing for a particular major / discipline
Learn about the writing expectations at the college level, specifically within an American liberal arts institution
Practice citing sources properly with MLA, APA or Chicago Style
Create a bibliography with MLA, APA or Chicago Style
Practice oral presentations and speeches
Find fellow students who offer tutoring services in specific courses and subjects on the Tutoring Board
Advertise tutoring services for specific courses and subjects on the Tutoring Board

The Director

Christina Bell Cornelius attended Franklin College in the mid-90s and returns to Lugano after working as a professional writer for a wide range of publications, corporations and museums. The Writing and Learning Center is located on the ground floor of the North Campus Academic Building.
