Ashleigh Cocks' Estate Gift
Franklin College has received a generous bequest from the estate of the late Ashleigh E. Cocks, who studied abroad in Lugano as part of the Fleming program in the mid-1960s. Ashleigh made a provision in her will that granted Franklin College more than $20,000 through the College’s annual Franklin Fund. The gift reflects a life-long love of Lugano that began during her time studying there.
Ashleigh passed away unexpectedly following surgery on May 16, 2008, at the age of 61. She earned her Bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University in 1969 and taught kindergarten in the state of Washington. Originally from California, she returned to the Bay area to work for the Union Fish Company, a three-generation family business established in 1864. She also launched a career in interior decorating and opened one of San Francisco’s premier antique shops, Collective Antiques, in 1987.
Because of Ashleigh’s passion for antiques, she often visited auctions and antique shops to add to her own personal extensive collection of fine china and glassware or for her store. Another passion that continued after her year in Lugano was travelling, and she made many trips to destinations in Europe, Africa and much of the United States. Her friends cherished her for her light-heartedness and sense of humor.
Planned gifts are a great way to support Franklin College Switzerland. They can be in the form of bequests, such as Ashleigh’s gift; gift annuities, such as charitable remainder trusts; life insurance policies; IRA and pension programs; and real estate. Please refer to the section on Planned Gifts or contact the Office of Advancement.
