Language Center

One of the most difficult obstacles to eliminating cultural barriers is the inability to communicate due to different languages. For this reason, Franklin College Switzerland requires three years of language study for graduation. The College currently offers language instruction in the classroom but has limited study and practice resources outside the classroom. A language center would provide much-needed resources for use by professors and students. For example, professors would like to give assignments that involve oral communication between various members of the class. In a classroom setting it is difficult for one professor to monitor all of those conversations. A modern language center would provide the tools that would allow a professor to listen to various conversations taking place between students via technology.

Additionally, in preparation for oral quizzes, the professor could give assignments in the language center that would prepare the students by providing them with the opportunity to hear native speakers in conversations using accurate pronunciation and grammar. The addition of a language center would strengthen the quality and effectiveness of learning and teaching foreign languages.

Space for a language center has been reserved in Phase III of the new student residence construction project.

Language Center: $500,000
