Science Lab

The new Environmental Studies major at Franklin College was created to educate interdisciplinary scholars to develop critical thinking skills and to utilize scientific analysis tools and technologies in the context of understanding and impacting current and future environmental issues. This course of study will prepare students for careers in government, nonprofit and for-profit conservation, and consulting, as well as for future graduate studies in more specialized areas.

Two components of the Environmental Studies program that set it apart from most other such programs are embodied in the philosophy that is at the core of Franklin College – a global perspective and Academic Travel. Whether working on a permaculture project in Malawi, Africa, or conducting research in the rain forest of Costa Rica, Franklin College students will have the opportunity to expand their classroom knowledge into the real world, without cultural boundaries.

To accommodate this new major, a science center is needed to provide an appropriate learning environment for research, evaluation and technology-assisted analysis of data.

Science Center: $200,000
