Honors Program
Since its inception, Franklin College Switzerland has continually increased its academic standards. The Franklin College Honors Program is designed to expand the academic engagement of Franklin's best and brightest students even more. This exciting program would offer interested students the opportunity to pursue cross-disciplinary research and scholarship while working closely with faculty mentors and other academically gifted students. Through a series of interdisciplinary seminars and scholarly research, the Honors Program would provide talented and highly motivated students with a chance to explore beyond the boundaries of their regular undergraduate curricula while giving back to the community through both service and the sharing of their knowledge, expertise and experiences.
Funding for the Franklin College Honors Program would provide the following:
- Deans’ roundtables
- Individual professor/student mentoring
- Development of creative multi-discipline scholarly instruction and research
- Material support for instructors and students
- On-campus education and promotion of the Honors Program and its benefits
- Small stipends for professors engaged in the program
- Guest lecturers
- Expenses for travel to scholarly forums for research presentations and development of professional relationships with experts in the fields of interest and study
The institutional impact of the program would be to:
- Heighten visibility of Franklin College in the academic and research environment
- Provide a forum and community for students who wish to raise the level of the academic bar
- Increase retention of our most academically gifted students
- Stimulate our top professors
- Provide academic challenges not currently available
- Better prepare honors students for graduate study
$15,000 would fund the program for one year
$75,000 would fund the program for four years
A $250,000 endowment would fund the program for the foreseeable future
