Campus Events & Traditions
These yearly Franklin traditions represent some of the best opportunities to get to know your fellow students as well as the Franklin faculty and staff. In addition, they are a great way to learn about the various cultures that form the Franklin community and the student activities that can help you maximize your college experience.
Valle Verzasca Trip
Valle Verzasca Trip One of the most recognized of Franklin traditions. Orientation Leaders and incoming students picnic and hike in the Swiss Alps. The day culminates at the bridge in Valle Versazca that is depicted in the Franklin crest. Many students dive into ice-cold water from the glaciers high above.
SMARTCar Rally
Caravan through Switzerland in one of the SMARTCars rented by the Office of Student Life for this incredibly popular weekend getaway.
Faculty/Student Soccer Game
Go head to head on the soccer field with your professors. This event is accompanied by a tailgate party sponsored by the Student Assembly.
International Food Night
This popular event is directly associated with the global nature of the Franklin community. Student groups from the diverse cultures represented at the College prepare traditional dishes and serve them to the larger Franklin community. Each group is judged based on a variety of categories and a winning group is chosen.
Superbowl Party
American football fans enjoy a bit of home in Switzerland. The party starts with the pre-game shows and goes late into the night as students disregard the time difference between the U.S. and Switzerland
Arab Night
Gets a glimpse into the food and traditions of one of the most widely represented cultures on campus. Sponsored by the Arab Club, one of the oldest student groups on campus.
Spring Ski Trip
Skiing is one of Switzerland’s most popular recreational activities. Early in the spring semester, students board buses before the sun rises and hit the slopes at Laax-Flims. Sponsored by the Office of Student Life.
The College Bowl
Each year, teams of students compete against each other in this popular test of general knowledge.
Indoor Soccer Tournament
Each spring, students, faculty & staff compete against each other for the indoor soccer championship.
Student Government Association Luau
The Luau is the last big event on campus before the closing of the spring semester. Great music, food, entertainment and activities sponsored by various clubs on campus lasts most of the day. Organized by the Student Government Association Luau.
