Step Three: Making Connections
Internship and Job Search Skills
Now that you have identified potential career interests and have prepared your resume or CV, it is time to develop other skills which will assist you in successfully landing an internship or job. Ebonie Rayford , Director of Career Services, can provide you with strategies and tools for your internship or job search. In individual meetings, Ebonie can mentor you on a range of topics including how to search for an internship or job, how to prepare for an interview and how to use proper business etiquette.
Internship and Job Connections
Networking - speaking or corresponding with people who work in certain fields or attend schools that you might be interested in - is one of the best ways to learn about a particular field, job or graduate school. The Director of Career Services works closely with the Director of Alumni and Parent Relations to facilitate numerous networking opportunities for students each year. For more information about the next networking event, please see the Events Calendar or contact the Director of Career Services.
In addition to attending the networking events, students are encouraged to use the Franklin Career Advisory Network (FCAN) directory for networking. The mission of FCAN is to provide Franklin alumni and current students the opportunity to connect with other alumni and parents who are willing to share information regarding their career paths, and other career related advice. This online directory of alumni and parents is only available to students who have completed steps one (individual assessment) and two (resume evaluation) of the Franklin Career Services Program. Once students have completed these steps they will be approved to access the FCAN directory.
