Letter from the SGA President
Dear members of the Franklin College Community,
My name is Conner Crawford and I am a senior here at Franklin. I come from a small city in Southern California which is odd considering I now call snowy Switzerland home. During my enrollment I have studied a combined Political Science and History major and enjoyed my fair share of travels and adventures abroad. In addition, I have served for four years on the Student Government Association (SGA); including three years on the executive board as Secretary, Treasurer and currently, President. This involvement with SGA has helped shape my “Franklin Experience” and made my journey all the more memorable and rewarding. In my time I have been honored to work with some of the most intelligent and devoted students that this school has ever produced. It is my humble dream that I will be able to give back to this school as much as they once did.
This year marks SGA’s 30th anniversary. We have gone by many names; the College Government Association, Student Union, Student Assembly… but the message has always remained the same. SGA exists to provide students on-campus support as well as give them a means to express student opinions and desires. As the college has grown we have grown with it. From our original handful of members with a limited budget, we have expanded to a group of almost thirty students. They are all volunteers, earning nothing for their diligent work other than the pride and sense of accomplishment that comes with knowing that the decisions that come out of SGA matter and that they, the student matter. One of the greatest strengths Franklin College has is the ability of a normal student, one who would be lost among thousands at a large university, to make a difference; a difference not only in their own lives but in the lives of their fellow classmates, faculty and staff.
The coming term will be filled as it often is with changes, programs, parties, sad goodbyes and joyful hellos. We hope that SGA will be a part of it all, guided by its tireless executive board and a door that is always open. This year as in the 29 that have come before it, SGA remains a student-run organization committed to the betterment of Franklin College Switzerland, the enrichment of its students and the understanding that we all came to Franklin looking for something special. It my most fervent hope that as students leave and the years pass, that they can look back on SGA and truly say that we lived up to our motto: “Yours. Truly.”
